In Clinton Hill, a picture-perfect clapboard townhouse seeks $2.35M

February 26, 2018

Clinton Hill is brimming with gorgeous 19th-century townhouses, from grand mansions to renovated carriage houses and everything in between. And this listing, located at 490 Classon Avenue—right on the border of Bed-Stuy and Clinton Hill—is no different; built in the mid-1800s, it has tons of curb appeal, thanks to its clapboard siding, mansard roof, and an utterly charming front porch.

Inside, it’s configured as a two-family home, though the listing—it’s going for $2.35 million, and held by Compass’s Christine Toes Muldoon—notes it can be turned back into a single-family space.

The first floor has a one-bedroom apartment with a somewhat odd layout—the bedroom, which is small, is tucked into a corner of the living room, and a kitchen and dining room extend beyond that. Another one-bedroom unit is above that, with more space on the third floor.

But even with the quirky layout, there’s a lot to love about this home: In addition to its picture-perfect exterior, it has plenty of historic details—there’s a wood-burning fireplace, tin ceilings, and crown molding—along with useful modern upgrades like central air and new windows.

There’s also a large, lovely backyard with both a tiny deck and a brick patio—all in all, it’s a pretty perfect place.
