Lower East Side’s Streit’s matzo factory-replacing condo gets its facade

July 12, 2018

Facade work is nearing completion at the Streit’s matzo factory-replacing condo on the Lower East Side, new construction site photos by Field Condition reveal. The last time we checked in with the construction site—in January 2018—the seven-story condo was just getting off the ground.

Now seven months later, the building has reached the top and is mostly covered in its facade, which is comprised of floor-to-ceiling glass and 265 custom cast panels, which are supposed to create a curtain-like effect on the facade.

Sales on 150 Rivington’s 45 condos launched in the summer of 2016 with apartments asking from $995,000. Most of the apartments here are already in contract, but of the ones available, prices range from $1.135 million for a one-bedroom, one-bathroom unit and going up to $2.885 million for a three-bedroom, two-bathroom condo, according to StreetEasy.

The project is being developed by Cogswell Lee Development and Gluck+ with the latter also serving as the architect on the project. The Streit’s matzo factory stood at this site, at the intersection of Rivington and Suffolk Streets, for 90 years before it was demolished in 2016. The developer purchased the factory site from its owners in 2015 for $31 million.
